Only in New York…

Only in New York can you find a hair stylist who not only does his thing with a pair of scissors, but can also teach you a thing or two about business. Shaun, co-owner and master stylist at Seagull Hair, has made me a customer for life. I’m happy to say that I’ve NEVER received as many compliments about a haircut before AND my hairstyle is finally different!

Although I could go on and on about my hair, let’s get to the good stuff. If you ever get the privilege to sit in Shaun’s chair, you’ll figure out  he’s more than just a pretty face. He’s a force of nature and a self admitted internet junkie. He passed on a few valuable SEO tips that I’m sure many of you can use:

  • Use Shustir – an online marketplace for small businesses. Create a profile, promote your business, link to your website and even list your products all for free. It just launched so take advantage while it’s still growing. I created my profile, check it out!
  • Create a Google profile – Anyone can set up a free profile with Google. Create one complete with links and get the benefits of Google rankings.
  • Make Your Customers Happy – If you  look at the 98 reviews for Seagull on CitySearch you’ll notice they average five stars. But what about handfull of ones that don’t? Well, Shaun personally contacts each person who doesn’t leave Seagull happy and offers to fix each style himself or they get their money back. How’s that for customer service? And, as a bonus, he also blogs about his customers. =)
  • Keep Your Employees Happy – The word employees almost seems too harsh when it comes to the Seagull vibe.  Customers and employees alike seemed more like lifelong friends sharing stories over a cup of coffee. And we all know, when your employees are happy it gets reflected through your services. Why do you think Google does so well?

That said, if you’re anything like the old me, who foolishly held on to the same hairstyle since the 8th grade (pathetic, I know), you can trust your locks to Shaun or anyone else on his team for that matter. The fun environment in this retro salon is contagious and you’ll walk out feeling nothing short of fabulous.

I’ll have to take some soon…I’m playing with different hairstyles. Who knew I had so many options with this short hair?! I love it.
